I am currently working at a software startup and we offer our software – software for studio management – as SaaS.
Not everybody knows what SaaS means because I have been asked about it. That’s when I got the idea of writing a short post on this matter.
SaaS is the abbreviation for software as a service. But what does it mean – software as a service.
Let’s have a look at what Wikipedia says:
Software as a service is a software licensing and delivery model in which software is licensed on a subscription basis and is centrally hosted. … SaaS is typically accessed by users using a thin client, e.g. via a web browser.
…
SaaS applications are also known as Web-based software, on-demand software and hosted software.
…
Unlike software that you install on your computer, to use a software as a service you only need a browser to access the software online.
